A SERIES OF DEBATES ON THE ETHICS OF JUDGES SUCCESSFULLY CONDUCTED
The fifth debate titled ‘Practice of the BoE/Code of Ethics of the members of the HJC‘, held on 18 February 2022, marked the successful completion of a series of debates on the ethics of judges: ‘Judges ethics‘ days‘. The fourth debate titled ‘Confidential Advisor - role and comparative legal solutions‘, was held on 11 February.
The debates were organised by the High Judicial Council (HJC) in cooperation with the HJC Board of Ethics and the Project for the judges and the courts‘ presidents in Serbia. The objective was to elaborate on numerous issues of the judges ethics, as well as on the work of the HJC Board of Ethics (BoE).
The panelists were the members of the HJC, the BoE and the HJC disciplinary bodies. The debates were organised in a hybrid mode and recorded over 600 participants, among judges and courts‘ presidents also the representatives of respective national and international organisations.
The closing event, among
other, reflected on the most interesting topics debated over the course of a
series and the results of the surveys conducted for participants during and at
the end of the cycle. The debates proved to be a
vigorous tool for engaging all parties in discussions exploring important
questions of a complex system of judges’ ethics
which, surely, requires continuous education and efforts in preservation of ethical
values.
