For the first time since the Council’s disciplinary bodies started functioning (in 2010) decisions on disciplinary proceedings brought against judges have been published. These decisions were passed due to negligent practice in judicial office or conduct of a judge which is unworthy of judicial function, as laid down in the Law on Judges.

Owing to the Project’s support, a selection of 42 disciplinary decisions, passed in the first instance and on appeal, were made public on the official website of the CouncilAll data in the published decisions which may be used to reveal the identity of the judges were made anonymous and pseudonyms were used, in accordance with the Bylaw on the omission and replacement (anonymization and use of pseudonyms) of data in decisions of the Council, which was recently adopted and drawn up with the support of the Project.

“Anonymization of decisions and uploading them on the Council’s website will be of great importance to us in order to be able to continually monitor the disciplinary bodies’ reasoning concerning omissions in practice, as well as sanctions. It provides a sort of legal security.” Anonymous judge

The selection of published decisions contains all disciplinary proceedings envisaged by the Law on Judges.
